Phoenix based Avnet, is one of the largest global electronic components and computer products distributors, with more than $25 billion in annual revenues.  Much of that revenue is due to Avnet’s strong culture and marketing activities that have significantly impacted the company’s brand and business results.

For the third year in a row, Fortune ranked Avnet No. 1 in its list of “Most Admired Companies” in its industry.  Not an easy achievement with ever-changing market conditions and more than 60 mergers and acquisitions since 1991. But Al will make it look easy as he shares Avnet’s approach to …and lessons learned about …metrics, drawing outside the lines, working around no’s, examples of what they have done, having fun and working with his peers on the executive board….to enhance the company brand, sales, share price and employee engagement.

Allen Maag joined Avnet as chief communications officer in September 1998 and is responsible for brand management, which includes global public relations, investor relations marketing, community relations and corporate communications. He reports to Steve Church, chief operational excellence officer.  Mr. Maag is a member of Avnet's Executive Board. He was elected a corporate officer in 1999.

Prior to joining Avnet, Mr. Maag was principal and owner of an international marketing communications and consulting firm in Chicago, specializing in public relations, advertising and communications. Clients included technology firms, distributors, manufacturers, associations and publishers.

In 2002 he was recognized by Upside magazine, and in 2003 and in 2007 by PR Week magazine, and listed among the most effective public relations executives by both publications.

Allen Maag currently serves as an ambassador on the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC).  He is our 2011-2012 National Chairman for the Business Marketing Association; served as member on the National board in recent prior years; and is immediate past president of BMA Phoenix chapter.  A graduate of the University of Illinois (Chicago Circle Campus), he holds a BA in Communications.
